How to Apply Press-On Nails with Nail Glue

How to Apply Press-On Nails with Nail Glue

Your set is built to last a lifetime. This is how to get the most out of every wear.

Prep determines everything. Most people reach for the glue before their nails are ready, and that is where the wear time goes. A set applied over a buffed, cleaned, oil-free nail will last weeks. A set applied over shiny, untouched nails will start lifting within days.

This guide walks through every step in the order it actually matters. Your YUMMICLAWS box includes everything you need: an alcohol pad, nail file, cuticle pusher, nail glue, nail glue remover, and a heart-shaped YUMMICLAWS nail file. Nothing else required.

What You Will Need

Everything below comes inside your YUMMICLAWS box:

  • Alcohol pad
  • Nail file
  • Cuticle pusher
  • Nail glue
  • Nail glue remover
  • YUMMICLAWS heart-shaped nail file

The Six Steps

Step 1: Size your nails before anything else

Lay all 10 nails from your set across your fingers before you open the glue. Each set comes with 10 sizes so you can find the closest match for every finger. The nail should sit from sidewall to sidewall across your nail bed without touching the skin on either side. If you are between sizes, choose the larger one. You can file the edges slightly for a closer fit. You cannot add material back.

Step 2: Push back your cuticles

Use the cuticle pusher from your kit to gently move your cuticles back on every finger. Work from the sides toward the centre. You are creating a clean flat surface for the nail to sit against. If the press-on sits over cuticle skin rather than directly on the nail plate, it will lift from the base within days regardless of how well you applied the glue.

Step 3: Lightly buff the nail surface

Use your nail file to lightly buff the top of each natural nail. You are not reshaping the nail, only removing the shine. A slightly matte surface gives the glue something to grip. Natural nails have oils on the surface that resist adhesive. This step removes them. In Malaysia and Singapore where humidity is high year-round, this step matters even more than in drier climates because surface moisture accumulates faster.

Step 4: Wipe with your alcohol pad

Wipe every nail with the alcohol pad immediately before applying glue. This is the last thing you do before the glue goes on. The alcohol removes remaining oils, dust from buffing, and any surface moisture. Let each nail air dry for 10 seconds before moving on. Do not touch the nail surface after wiping.

Step 5: Apply a small amount of glue to your natural nail

Squeeze a pea-sized amount of glue onto your natural nail, not onto the press-on. Spread it lightly and evenly across the surface. More glue does not mean longer wear. Excess glue will squeeze out the sides and onto your skin, making removal harder and creating a visible edge around the nail. A thin even layer covering the nail plate is all you need.

Step 6: Press and hold for 10 to 15 seconds

Align the press-on nail at the base of your natural nail, as close to the cuticle line as possible without sitting on top of it. Press down from the base toward the tip. Then hold firm pressure for 10 to 15 seconds. Repeat on every nail. Avoid running water over your hands for at least 2 hours after application. The glue needs time to fully cure, and water in the first couple of hours is the most common reason nails lift early.

How Long Will They Last?

With proper prep and glue application, your YUMMICLAWS set is designed to last 1 to 3 weeks of continuous wear. Wear time varies based on your natural nail oils, how much time your hands spend in water, and your daily activities. Most customers find the sweet spot is around 10 to 14 days before a nail needs attention.

Prefer a shorter-wear option? See our sticky tabs application guide for damage-free wear of 1 to 3 days.

When You Are Ready to Remove

Do not peel or force the nails off. YUMMICLAWS sets are handmade and reusable for life with proper care. Forcing them off is the only thing that shortens that lifespan. See our removal guide for the soak method that keeps both your natural nails and your press-ons in good condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much nail glue should I use?

A pea-sized amount spread thinly and evenly across your natural nail. Avoid pooling glue near the cuticle or applying it to the press-on itself.

My nails keep lifting at the edges. What am I doing wrong?

Almost always a prep issue. Make sure you buffed the shine off each nail, wiped with alcohol immediately before applying, and pushed cuticles back far enough that the press-on sits fully on the nail plate with no skin underneath.

Can I shower and wash dishes while wearing press-on nails?

Yes, once the glue has cured for at least 2 hours. Normal water contact after that is fine. Prolonged soaking such as long baths or swimming will shorten wear time.

Will the glue damage my natural nails?

Not with correct removal. Damage to natural nails comes from peeling or forcing nails off, not from wearing them. The soak removal method in our removal guide is safe for your nail plate.

Does humidity affect wear time?

Yes. In Malaysia and Singapore, higher humidity means more surface moisture on your nails before application. Thorough buffing and an alcohol wipe immediately before applying make the biggest difference here. Do not skip those two steps.

Can I reuse my nails after removing them?

Yes. YUMMICLAWS press-on nails are designed to be reusable for life with proper care. After removal, use the nail file to gently remove any glue residue from the back of the press-on, then store them in the original box.
